Emma Dante
Emma Dante was born in Palermo in 1967.
Dramatist and director, she got her diploma in Rome at the National Academy of Dramatic Art “Silvio D’Amico”. Being a member of the Gruppo della Rocca (1993-5), she builds up in Palermo the Compagnia Sud Costa Occidentale, with whom she has obtained several awards and acknowledgements in the past decade. Among them, we shall mention: in 2001, the Scenario Prize for the mPalermu project, and Lo Straniero prize, assigned by Goffred Fofi, as young emerging director; in 2002, the Ubu Award as Italian revelation; in 2003, the Ubu Award for Carnezzeria as best Italian Revelation; in 2004 the Gassman Award as best Italian director; the Critics’ Prize (National Association of Theatre Critics) for dramatic art and direction, and the Donnadiscena Prize (National Prize for Direction); in 2005 the Golden Graal Award as best director for Medea.
